Manchester United Legend Calls for Forward Reinforcements Ahead of 2024/25 Season

As Manchester United gears up for the 2024/25 season, former midfielder Paul Scholes has highlighted a critical area for improvement. Despite the club's recent acquisitions, including Joshua Zirkzee and young defender Lenny Yoro, Scholes believes that strengthening the forward line should be a priority.

United's summer transfer window has been active, with Zirkzee joining from Bologna and Yoro brought in to fill the void left by Raphael Varane's departure. These moves follow a disappointing 2023/24 season in which the team finished with a negative goal difference. Although the season ended on a high with an FA Cup victory, Scholes insists that an experienced centre-forward is needed to complement the younger talents.

Scholes expressed his concerns, stating, “When I think about Manchester United, I think about brilliant centre-forwards. Last year, they relied heavily on young Rasmus Hojlund, which was a lot to ask of him. They’ve brought in another young striker in Zirkzee, but I believe they need an experienced centre-forward who can reliably guarantee goals.”

Hojlund was United’s top scorer last season with 16 goals, supported by three other players who also reached double digits. To further bolster their attacking options, United has also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain's Manuel Ugarte, Bayern Munich’s Matthijs De Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui.

In addition to Scholes' insights, Manchester United faces potential injury concerns for Hojlund and Yoro, who both suffered knocks during a recent friendly against Arsenal. Hojlund was substituted shortly after scoring, while Yoro was taken off 17 minutes later.

As Manchester United prepares for the new season, addressing the forward line remains a key focus if they are to build on last season's successes and achieve greater consistency.
